History (..in brief)

I have been a professional artist painting portraits, landscapes, still life, flower paintings since 1987.  I have drawn and painted my entire life, beginning in early childhood.  I have received many prestigious awards for my artworks.  Over the years, I have participated in solo and group shows.  I have demonstrated art publicly and privately.    As Vice-President of a local art group  and as a board member of a neighboring art center,  I have enjoyed working within art organizations.  I am appreciative of much media coverage and exposure by local television, and newspapers. Since the development of my website in 1997 I have been privileged to link with many online art galleries and publications. I have produced portraits of hundreds of people and pets nationwide.  Many of my artworks are sold to private and public collections, across North America.  Thanks to the world wide web I also have attained International exposure, and representation.

Lisabelle's Artist Statement

Before cameras were invented Portrait Painters were in high demand and flourished. Most if not all skilled artists were able to exact portraits.  In our day and age, a hand painted portrait is to some minds archaic.  My portraits are said to be "emotive " they project feelings and it requires more than a camera's aperture to produce brush strokes that accentuate and compliment an individual  in harmony.  Each one of my portraits,  are creative works of art.   For  my portrait  subjects, I not only capture the unique essence in an individuals expression,  but illuminate features in accurate forms.   True to life realism portrayed in  sensitive and flattering ways.  Over twenty years of continuous commissioned portraits and artworks.

Floral subjects, landscapes and still life’s, allow me areas in which I can express myself without limitations,  creating from my own visions and feelings.  I have chosen to allow for variety in my work and styles of painting.  Realism, (commissioned portrait works), Abstract and Impressionism Flower paintings and Landscapes.

Years of study, experience with gained skills have resulted in being disciplined in more than one area of 2 dimensional art.

“Inspired by what I see, the output Art is from practice, feelings, perceptions, intuition and creativity.”

I made a decision in my own mind at eight, that what I wanted to be was an artist.  When my Father asked me,  “What do you want to be when you grow up?” an artist, I said. Shortly after that, my Father purchased an easel and pastel pencils for me.  I have not stopped drawing or painting since.  I knew then as I know now, my art is of great importance to me.

My own love of art, all the masters,  and music too.

Georgia O'Keefe liberating expression in art, emotions for the glorious connection with nature.

Aretha Franklin more than an idol, she's a role model, and heroine to me of all time, she moves me and always did and always will!

Janis Joplin A girl who was knocked around, made to feel like a joke. Grew with her art, way beyond anyone's expectations,  to prove, that a God given gift, is more than, life's unfair, limits to expression.

Painting taken literally is the practice of applying pigment suspended in a carrier (or medium) and a binding agent (a glue) to a surface (support) such as paper, canvas or a wall. However, when used in an artistic sense it means the use of this activity in combination with drawing, composition and other aesthetic considerations in order to manifest the expressive and conceptual intention of the practitioner. Painting is also used to express spiritual motifs and ideas; sites of this kind of painting range from artwork depicting mythological figures on pottery to The Sistine Chapel to the human body itself.

Colour is the essence of painting as sound is of music. Colour is highly subjective, but has observable psychological effects, although these can differ from one culture to the next. Black is associated with mourning in the West, but elsewhere white may be. Some painters, theoreticians, writers and scientists, including Goethe, Kandinsky, Newton, have written their own colour theory. Moreover the use of language is only a generalization for a colour equivalent. The word "red", for example, can cover a wide range of variations on the pure red of the spectrum. There is not a formalised register of different colours in the way that there is agreement on different notes in music, such as C or C# in music, although the Pantone system is widely used in the printing and design industry for this purpose.

Modern artists have extended the practice of painting considerably to include, for example, collage. This began with Cubism and is not painting in strict sense. Some modern painters incorporate different materials such as sand, cement, straw or wood for their texture. Examples of this are the works of Jean Dubuffet or Anselm Kiefer.

Modern and contemporary art has moved away from the historic value of craft in favour of concept; this has led some to say that painting, as a serious art form, is dead, although this has not deterred the majority of artists from continuing to practice it either as whole or part of their work.
